Hello,
Can any one recomend and apps for converting Avi's to Mpegs,
Tried Adobe premier but it takes 7 odd hours for 750Meg !!

Try 'TPMGEnc'. It took about 5 1/2 hours to convert a DIVX file to MPG. 700Meg -> 1.3 Gig.
It's a very processor intesive task, so it will take a few hours no matter which software you use.

Have just downloaded it, it seems easier to use than premier (and a lot quicker!)
vcdhelp.com also looks like a good place for info,
