have a bizzare purple hue to the screen?. if i tilt the left hand side away from me the colours seem to look more normal and less purple. also if i switch the thing off while it is docked (w2k), it refuses to power up again until i do a soft reset.
is it buggered or should i try the new OS that is being touted around on grokster etc.

what iPaq do you have, eg 38xx 39xx etc? and what version of active sync are you running?

I've had a quick look through what we call 'engineering advisories' but there's nothing listed for the problem you are experiencing, but I'll ask the support team on Friday.

I used to work in the pre-sales group with Brynn. I think he's now moved on to a new group but I occasionally see him in Reading.

in answer to the original question, the screen is shagged and so is the systemboard - well... atleast that's what our techies tell me!

You could try re-flashing the firmware on the iPAQ to stop the problem when connecting to the PC.

The only real solution is to send it back under warranty which normally takes a few days.

Sorry,

Phil

you don't, you bin the whole thing or send it back under warranty.

There was an early batch of the 3600 iPAQs manufatured in the September/October which had batteries that would not hold their charge after about 3 months of use. Other than that I haven't heard of other battery problems.

towzer,

reflashing the firmware-is that the same as the full reset? i.e hold the reset in for a few seconds and press the two ouside nav buttons?

No... a firmware reflash is a term used to describe the process for updating the ROM's. A reset will only erase memory contents and any applications that were loaded after shipping from factory. The firmware/ROMs contain the basic operating system and some applications such as calendar etc.

Sometimes the firmware becomes corrupt and needs to be reprogrammed. To do this you typically connect the iPAQ to the PC and run the system SoftPAQ - download it from the web:
http://www.compaq.com/support/files/handheldiPAQ/us/index.html?cat=iPAQ%20Internet%20Devices
