Friends PC has a CD ROM installed in it and was working, now the machine doesn't see it.............. System is a Compaq Presario running Windows 98
How do I get the PC to re-install it? I've checked drivers and theres no sight of CD on there either.
Cheers

Checklist
Open the case 7 check that all the cables that attach to the CDROM are firmly in place - that's the flat one at both ends (motherboard too) and the power cable.
Go into the bios and check that the CDROM is being reported either at all or correctly.
Look at the POST screen on boot-up - check that the CDROM is being reported either at all or correctly.
If pwr OK it will flash lights on boot-up & also should open close - that should be a guide if it doesn't![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
My experience is usually that the cables are not seated correctly, a bios error or that the CDROM is faulty.
Another one - has he added another device on the ribbon chain? (extra HDD or CDROM) In which case is the master/slave configuration correct?
