Can't VPN over wireless???
#1
further to my note re my Draytek wireless router, when I'm connected to the router via wires I can VPN into work fine.
If I use my ipaq and the wireless card I can VPN into work fine.
If I use my laptop and the wireless card, my VPN connection get's made ok, but email etc cannot find anything at work thru the VPN.
I'm guessing it's something to do with my routes or something like that.
Does anyone know what I need to change and how?
thanks,
greg

When i used to use my Wireless LANand the VPN i needed the IP of the WINS server in the TCP/IP properties.
It was a choice of use the WINS server, or build a big LMHOSTS file, and the WINS server was only one entry

if its win2k on the laptopo you can define WINs servers etc for each NIC.
Chances are they're defined for the wired NIC but not the wireless.
Right click on "Net Neighbourhood" - select properties
Should have a an icon for "Wired" and "wireless" cards.
Right click on the wired - select properties
Click on "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" - slecet properties
Make a note of "DNS Servers"
Select Advanced - go to the "WINS" Tab
Make a note of all settings.
Then go to the "Wireless Nic" and check they're the same.

they aint defined for either, apparently we use DNS not WINS (according to our helpdesk)
Never the less, put the WINS address into the wireless config, rebooted and all is fine. Not sure if it was the WINS or the reboot that fixed it!
