New PC set up question
#1
My new PC arrived yesterday and I'm in two minds over how to connect the HDD and CD. I have the following:
1x HDD, 5200RPM, data only from older PC
1x New CD-Rom
1x New, 7200RPM HDD
2x New IDE channels on the new motherboard
Traditionally I have run 2 HDD's, main one for O/s and apps (read games) the second for data such as word docs and downloaded drivers. It allows me to flatten the main system without having to mess around with copying data.
I think I should configure the drives as follows:
IDE Channel 1
Connect New 7200RPM drive and use for O/S plus apps
IDE Channel 2.
Set second HDD as the master on this channel and run the CD device as the slave
I think this will improve performance by providing the faster, more frequently use drive with a dedicated I/O channel.
Any thoughts/comments are appreciated.

I'd prob do the same, xcept i got a cheap scsi card and couple of
cheap scsi hard drive off ebay. makes a 800Mhz pc look like 2.5 Gig
if any1 want to boost performance without spending tooooo much,
i'd recommend it

Phil,
I may be wrong (I don't generally do hardware) but I was under the impression that for each IDE channel, it runs at the speed of the slowest device.
I.e. it seems common advice to run hard disks on one channel and slower stuff like CD Drives, ZIP drives etc. on a seperate channel.
Not sure that all stands, someone jump in and help me here...
Cheers
