Hmmm. Must be the alcohol I had last night but can't for the life of me get my damn CD players working! Details: Win2K Pro with SP2. SW Cds won't autoplay and even *running* the exe file on the CD won't make it work. Pop a DVD in and that's OK.... so it's obviously something very very simple that I've cocked up but can't see for the life of me ....
Help please ....

Dave
PS: yes I have changed things - had to reload W2K and the service pack .... just overwrote things rather than a clean install ...

Dave,
Only thing I can suggest is that you remove the drivers and items from the device manager in control panel\system\hardware\device manager (Win XP)or control panel\system\device manager (Win98/Me/Win2k).
Then reboot the PC and let it find the devices again.
Have you changed any BIOS settings that could have affected the plug 'n play (interrupts) settings?..I'm thinking that the devices are not being assigned an IRQ and resources when Win2K boots...
Just a thought?
Tony

Cheers for the ideas Tony. But still nowt ... BUT then ..... tried more Cds and it seems to be a couple of CDs that are the problem. Both I have used recently and both are recent CDs (from the front of pooter mags). Others work fine .... aaaggghhhhh ...!!!!!
At least it makes me less inclined to upgrade to XP - too much hassle ....
Ta for ideas anyway.
Dave
