Working on client site, DOMAIN X.

We had Workgroup W2K Server on (not in) DOMAIN X.

We moved offices this morning..........

Workgroup server was added into DOMAIN X (not by me!)

Unfortunately it now thinks it is the PDC and has elected itself thus, and is attempting to validate logins e.t.c e.t.c as a result on-one on DOMAIN X can login - kix scripts won't run, it's a mess.......(circa 300 users)

The offending server has been downed....

Anyone know of any "easy" way to tell the previous server that it is the PDC, (i'm about to reconfigure the nasty one - so that it does no more harm)........


Other than remove and add it back into the domain I can't think of anything off the top of my head.......

Big beers offered for any information leading to an arrest or conviction of the offending server n00b......

If previous server is now a BDC, then promote it to PDC (server manager). More interesting is how a workgroup server suddenly got to be a PDC.....

funnily enough there's a guarded leave major staff cull at client site tomorrow - so I rather fancy that someone ran the above, or did something similar......

Do you have a generic admin logon? Something in the event log maybe about which username trigged it?

just dcpromo the w2k server (this will remove ad from that server, and make it back as standalone), thus the other server will take back the domain
