When a new person starts work (or indeed when we swap machines around, i.e. upgrade roll-outs) we have to change the name which programs a registered to.
This is simple with Windows as its in a simple place in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion, however I can't find how to change Office's registration.
In the end it's usually a case of remove the office suite and put it back on. In the good olden days this wasn't TOO much hassle, but now we have Office XP and product activation. Which would mean a phonecall to MS if wanted to install a previously installed CD Key.
Has anyone got any info on changing the name without all this rigmarol?

To be honest, we avoid this issue entirely by using generic registration.
All software is registered to "User" and "Company XYZ Limited"

I presume you are trying to change the user name displayed when the modules start and on the Help > About screen?
In OfficeXP, click Tools > Options, then the General Tab and edit the username field (bottom of tabbed page)
As for the OS, do as Chris suggests and set them all to some generic name, then you never have to change them.
We used to have a similar problem on the LAN, because all of the PCs were set to friendly names (Alan, Bob etc) for ease of identity. When someone new started had to change the identity of the machine and the host files on all machines.

Now why didn't I think to look there ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
I thought it was some kind of digital stamp when I couldn't find it in the registry.
The reason my question came about is I am setting up some new laptops for our reps. We're keeping 2 of the new ones here in the office incase we ever need to test anything![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
I installed XP pro on the one here and then noticed it had registered it to "AndyS" which is my Windows Login. Anyone would think it was now my laptop![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
