I have just finished editing a home vid and saved it in mpg format on the lowest resolution setting. (using Sony pixela software which came with camera) the vid is only 4 mins 14 secs but is 106MB
how do I compress it to something reasonable
I've only got 50MB of webspace
and a 56kmodem
Cheers
Andy

Andy,
What MPEG ompression is it using and what is the resolution? It's all down to resulotuion, compression algorithm and sound quality.
I use Pinnacle Studio 7 because it supports AVI, MPEG1, MPEG2, Windows Media, Real Mediaplayer.
I have some in-car footage that's only 7mins long and it's over 2GB in full DV quality A full 60min Mini-Dv tape is well over 10Gb
You have to drop the resolution, video and sound quality to get it down to around 4Mb. An 18 min clip on my website is 150Mb @ 450Kbps and only 4Mb in size @ 45Kpbs.

just had a looking in the settings tab :
mpeg 1
then four choices
low **saved under this setting**
normal
high
highest
no idea about sound as there is no tab to adjust
checked camera and it recorded in 12bit...only other choice was 16bit?
still no idea on how it was saved though.
links to sofware I can purchase/download (pref free )??
recorded in D8 (digital8) onto tape, memory stick would only allow 60 second bursts of capture
Cheers for your help so far.
