I am building a "budget box" for a friend, basically I need a solid motherboard to work with the athlon xp 2100+ processor, also which spec memory goes with this processor (ddr2700??)
I don't want sound, video or modem on motherboard either.
Video will be a geforce 4 ti 4200

Gigabyte GA-7ZXE - £44 inc - Supports upto XP2600 cpu's (266fsb) Stonks and rock solid stable - Dabs.com
Takes Crucial PC133 CAS2 SDRAM - Fairly cheap and stonks at optimal RAM settings: 256MB £33 inc VAT and Del each

I recommend 2 sticks of this as oppossed to to 1 stick of 512MB. Cannot guarantee that the RAM will be rock solid at Optimal RAM settings, but the 2x256 are and it is worth running optimal RAM timings on this board.
Most mobo's nowadays tend to come with onboard sound, but virtually all of those allow the onboard to be COMPLETELY disabled in the bios.
Cheers,

If you want to go the DDR Route, then I could recommend the Abit KD7 Motherboard. Stable and fast with a pretty good chipset on it.
£76.01 from Dabs.
256MB DDR333 RAM from Crucial is stupidly cheap atm, so another good potential choice.

So there you go. Go with the Gigabyte and a stick of the Crucial 256. You would be silly not too. Please keep away from pc-chips/sis etc if you can in the budget range ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Trust me, just go with the gigabyte and you will not be disappointed.
Cheers,
