What's the best 60gb or 80gb drive out there, I'm looking at Maxtors, WD's, Fujitsu's, et al.
Cheers.

Seagate Barracudas get some good reviews, and are some of the quietest drives out there if that bothers you. Seems to be one for all seasons too - 5400/7200, 2Mb Cache, 8Mb Cache, 60/80/120Gb and relatively good value.

Wouldn't touch an IBM with a bargepole.
Very unreliable. If you look on some of the computer forums you will find people who have had 3 or more IBM failures. I'm lucky I've only had one so far.

I'm curious about these new Seagate drives with their 'liquid bearing technology" (or whatever they call it!)
Anyone actually own one ?

I know of 3 IBM 60 and 40 GB drives failing
They even have a very nifty returns etc form set up - funny that

I've just bought the WD 120GB premium edition drive to go in my new box of tricks. Will report my findings when it arrives with my other toys.

Si - Do a search for Deskstars (aka Deathstars). Mainly relates to the older drives, but nobody seems to like to touch them since.

Recommend either Seagate Barracudas or WD Caviar.
