Ive tried admin -> event log(Win2k) but no usful info.

for some reason pc keeps randomly shutting down.

its not a case stability, thats fine as its just 3.5 and ok.

But must be some kinda software error

It could be one of many different hardware problems. So don't cancel out hardware just yet Si.

If it was a normal shutdown you'd see event log service shutting down, look in event viewer, under system and look for Information messages with source eventlog, normally you'll have one containing:
The Event log service was stopped.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

which would mean something told it to shutdown. If you don't have those something went bang

Change the .exe file that gator points to (gmt.exe) if you change it to oldgmt.exe gator no longer runs and no longer brings up those stupid pop ups and adverts.

If you remove the gmt.exe it gets recreated and then still works so just rename it. Works on my machine.

if you are concerned about spyware or such download the free version of pestpatrol from their website. then go here http://www.thetechguide.com/downloads.html and download the xp version of msconfig and turn off services you dont want to start in the starup tab.
