Broadband

I use pipex, they have just been rated Best Consumer Broadband Provider.
Have a look here http://www.adslguide.org/
Also check out http://www.pipex.net and look at their solo package, you can be all up and running for £24, thats a good saving.
If you do decide to go with them you could do me a favour and allow me to recommend you and I would get a free months subs .

I'm with NTL and have no problems that aren't self-inflicted
(Like kicking the mains plug for the CM out of the socket )

NTL - very good - as long as you don't have to speak to the helpdesk - which is crap.
Service has been very good. We've only had one outage of a couple of days in just over a year. Also a dodgy cable modem was replaced without fuss. Performance is very good - normally get way over the quoted 512K and I've certainly been getting the 600K from the new enhanced service.

Plugs into the phone line, the standard modems are USB only, if it's got an ethernet port(s) you can connect to it direct from the network card on your PC, or plug it into a hub and run PC's all over the house

BT have been slated a lot recently for 'controlling' content.
I have also found that they seem to get hacked a lot. If I am port scanned it normally originates from a BT IP address. Not sure if it's still about but there used to be a forum called 0800 dialup or something and they used to post BT account holders details for others to abuse.
They are also £29.99 per month as opposed to other sub £25 companies. (Pipex £23.49)
Pipex won't hold you to a contract either, you can cancel at any time, although their T&C's do state that they may ask for a contribution toward the equipment & setup costs in the first year.
