Any Linux people around?

I'm trying redhat 8 and VMware. Got it all working ok, then using the redhat update tool it updated my kernel.
now when I try and run the vmware tools it's asking to recompile the kernel and asking for C header files to match the existing kernel. I point it at /usr/src/linux-2.4.18-14/include but it then says the directory of kernel headers does not match my running kernel (version 2.4.18-27.8.0).
any ideas how I get/find the correct C header files?
cheers,
greg

Where did the kernel come from? If it's on your installation media the source for that kernel will also be there, install the source RPM or something. Failing that you can probably get it from kernel.org.

Edit so you get the right version

No, there's nothing Red Hat specific in there. Red Hat is just a Linux distribution, just like Debian or Slackware, they all use the same kernels but come packaged differently (versions of bundled software are different, package management is different, etc), that's the only difference between them.
It's usually easier to compile by hand I find anyway, you get more control and you always have the source, but not having to get your hands too dirty is one reason why a lot of people choose Red Hat, I don't use it personally
