A DVD camcorder has to be more bulky than pretty much any of the DV machines just to accomodate a DVD.
Secondly a DVD wouldn't actually hold that much footage compared to a DV tape would it ?

Al,
The Hitachi DVD Camcorder does not use full size DVDs they use 8cm DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs so size is pretty much the same as DV camcorders. They also hold 2 hours of video which is more than a DV.

What compression are they using ? I'm sure when I load DV onto my PC I only get a few mins per Gb.....
Aren't full size writable DVD's somewhere just under 5Gb ?

Al,
In standard quality mode they record at 352x480 @ 3Mbps, some of the DVD discs are dual sided, 60 mins on each side. Just seen price $2000, might just get the latest DV camcorder for now.
