VB Script for installing printers..

Making a VB script to install printers, however, I only want the script to use the first 3 characters of the machine name to decide which printer to install as default.
At the moment, I was planning to do it via a logon script first, so ...
IF %COMPUTERNAME%.==BUILDING1PC1 GOTO build1pc1
and then in that would run the right script to install the printer.
But must be an easier way? as I do not want to list all the machines that are in each room. I would just prefer to do it using the first 3 or 4 characters.. i.e. W17- or N115 etc.. as after this, the numer is the asset tag.
Any suggestions ? ?
