I'm in the process of starting a company, and I need to choose a good Web Hosting company.
We're thinking pretty small scale, prob around 200 meg tops for the fist year (even this may be too much).
We'll be setting up client and supplier databases, and will use an ASP application to generate Wizard-type questionnaires to compile complete worklists and specifications.
I'm not much of a techie, but our developer is keen for .NET capabilities and a SQL Server backend - we may have to beat him down to basic ASP and Access 2000 though as cost is an issue...![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Any good or bad experiences out there?
big thanks
Ian

You are right in that SQL2000 carries a hefty pricetag. Well it does from the hosts that are actually licensed !!
Did you know that about 90% of web hosting companies are not correctly licensed ??? In order to offer commercial hosting on any microsoft product you need to be a MS Service Provider which in turn means you have to be a certified partner. Not many are, therefore they are just buying in normal licenses and reselling (mostly due to ignorance cos MS's licensing is a nightmare).
Access is terrible. It bogs down rapidly with concurrency and offers very poor security. A much better alternative is mySQL, which will give you true client/server database functionality without the pricetag of MS SQL. Its nowhere near advanced, has no stored procedures or jobs functionality for example, I refer to it as a decent version of Access![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
You can hook up ASP to mySQL no problem.
Everyone who offers win2k hosting should be offering .net support now since it just relies on the framework being installed. Win2003 Server is out at the end of April and has native .net - we will be one of the first companies to offer this commercially (1&1 do it now based on the beta RC2 version!)
Give me a ring on 0845 125 9500 if you want any advice.
