Have you tried plugging the AP into another Ethernet port on the router?

Does the wired PC access the AP's GUI ok when the AP is plugged into the router?

Have you tried an different straight'thru cable for the AP?

I have tried a different port, get the same result though I also tried the straigh through cable on the AP and it had the same result again. Trying to access the AP from the wired lan presents the same problem

Just trying to understand the problem.... is the main wired network on a different subnet to the wireless clients? i.e. If so does the AP have an IP for each subnet?

Do you get to choose port settings on the linksys or AP ?

I have seen cases where a mismatch between Half-Duplex and Full-duplex settings can do anything from Work Perfectly to not all inlcuding somewhere half way between giving horrendous packet loss.

If possible try to set both to 100mb/s full-duplex.

Deano

Linksys is a basic switch with pretty LEDs that look nice in a dark room not sure about that AP, no doubt that won't have any control either.

Agree with deano though, most likely to be duplexing issue. Oneway around it is to use another hub/switch in between the linksys and ap.

All the clients are on the same subnet but here is the kicker, if I add in my old router/hub and connect it to the linksys via x-over it works perfectly, in fact im typing this via the wireless. I still wan t to try and sort it though. Basically the linksys is on 10.0.0.1 (hardwired) with the AP being 10.0.0.2 with subnet 255.255.255.0 with a default gateway of 10.0.0.1 on all ip enabled devices

I will try the duplex thing though and see what happens.

Hi Guys,

I have a bit of a problem that I hope you may be able to shed some light on.

Following my recent cable installation I bought a Linksys BEFSR81 ( 8 port switch with WAN uplink to the NTL box and was given a 3CRW747E-A1 ( one of the first 11 Mb/s wireless APs)

Now the pc in the linksys switch works fine and get nice speeds ie > 500 Kbits/s However when on the Wirless network (via seperate laptop) with suitable card, I get terrible speeds. This AP is plugged into the linksys switch to get it onto the lan.

I can ping the Wireless AP via the Wireless and get a rock steady 4 MS ping, but try to ping anything else on the network and i get 75% packet loss.

This AP is plugged into the linksys and as soon as the ping wants to go anywhere except the AP it goes bad (even trying to do gui admin on the linksys). However if I take an Xover cable and connect to the AP via it rather than wireless, I once again get a rock steady ping.

Any ideas?

Should also mention this was used in my old ADSL network and was absolutly fine. I did mess with some settings but I have since restored factory defaults etc. I will try the old dsl504 router/hub with it later see if it makes a difference.
