Large Hard Drive Problem

I'm upgrading the family's PC, and starting off with mine. The first problem I've encountered (there are usually a number of them) is that in my wisdom I bought a 185 Gb hard drive. The problem is that although the BIOS sees it in its full glory, XP can only see 137 Gb.
I've been to the Microsoft page here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;303013 and followed their guidance (except that I can't enter the value 0x1, it only accepts numeric values
) but I'm still stuck at 137 Gb.
There was no disk management software included with the hard drive (OEM) so does anyone have any ideas please? I don't have access to a copy of Partition Magic, so that's a non-starter I'm afraid.

I tell a lie.
IT did work. I now have 49 Gb of unallocated space to play with
.
Now I know what to do I'll put the disk in with all the other new bits and see if it works in there!

now I've put th drive together with the other bits I'm still having problems. I have allocated 60 Gb to C, 60 Gb to D and want the rest spread evenly over E, F and G. The problem is that when I try to format E (using quick format) I get a BSOD with a STOP: 0x000007A message.
Just working my way through all the driver updates I can think of, the motherboard (Abit AT7-MAX2 running AMD 2400+ and 512Mb 3200 RAM) has taken care of all the speed settings (I don't overclock), so I'll keep on trying. That's what holidays are for isn't it?![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
OK, I'll wash the car later.
The message I get when trying to format the E drive is
"Disk failure at Controller 1, Channel 3, Master"
Is this a motherboard problem, and is it solveable?

Bigsinky,
No, I'm trying to format them all under NTFS. However, I have now plugged the drive into the IDE slot rather than the RAID and it's worked fine. Presumably the Highpoint system can't cope. I have checked that the board has the latest BIOS though.
When I've finished setting it up I'll have another go at using the RAID slot.
Well actually, I am a bit of an old-fashioned FAT32 person, andlast time and last time my hard drive went kaput I did panic for a while before I found out I could use XP's recovery console.![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
