Hi.
i have been getting conflicting info on this... Does NTL Broadband change your IP address everytime you dial up? Because I realy don't want a fixed IP.

Also, would the jump from regular bradband to the 1 meg package make that much difference? I am with B.T at the mo and I have never had a problem with it but NTL can give me their 1 mb line for the same price.

Thanks
MR 6

Technically it is a 'Dynamic IP' that you are assigned, BUT what you will probably find is that you will generally get issued an IP address, and then it will not really change.

I am on Telewest, have been for a couple of years now, and at one point MY IP address did not change for several months.

i have been using a 1 meg ntl line for 5 months now. have to say i have had no probs so far. i went from a 56k connection and with fast servers like microshaft i regularly download at 140-150K per second. i find that for the first 10 secs of so i can touch 200k per sec and then the server throttles back to around 140 or so. other sites i regularly get 125k per second. with web browsing you will notice very little difference between BT 512k and NTL 1 meg. the 1 meg comes into its own if you are into newsgroups and downloading avi files. be aware that NTL now have a 1Gb per day cap on their service. this may influence your decision.

cheers

Im on the 1M as well
The only time my IP changed was when I connected a new PC the the line ( I have not looked recently though).
As for downloading they where going to send out letters to everyone that was over the 1Gig limit per day, but still waiting for mine

Mr-6, you don't dialup with NTL cable, it's on permanently. I've been on 1 meg now for a while and only noticed 1 ip change and that was when I turned my PC off for 1 week.
