Buying a new hard drive, want one which is 120Gb. Found one that sounds ok, Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9. It says its interface type is Ultra ATA. I'm using a Asus A7N8X motherboard which has Ultra DMA. Will the Hard drive work?

Whats serial ATA? (it says my motherboard has it on the users manual)

cheers

Both the same to me.

Serial ATA is a new standard for connecting hard disks to your PC and uses a totally different sort of cable and power connector.

Serial ATA drives are just starting to hit the market at present.

Serial ATA drives are a doddle to connect up - makes life much easier.

They're *supposed* to offer better performance too, but that won't come for a while yet.

The Western Digital 10,000rpm Raptor Serial ATA are as fast as you like but cost a fair wedge.

StorageReview were very impressed by it:

"WD's drive, however, delivers single-user performance that matches and even exceeds not only 10k RPM SCSI but also that of 15k RPM units. It is the answer to many years of prayers from power-users and enthusiasts worldwide"
