Anyone tried using something like Xbcopy to copy the contents of a DVD (film) to the Xbox HDD and then playing the DVD with XBMP off the HDD ??

Not tried it, but full DVD's would soon eat your HDD

I rip mine to 700Mb divx files and play them with XBMP.

Not sure that XBMP supports reading of vob or ifo files, but it'd probably work. Can't see why you would want to tho

Tried loads of programs, but the best it seems is Vidomi.
(As recommended by stevebt, thanks Steve )

There is a modified xvid codec on the Vidomi forum which I am using. Works great

i wish someone could tell me how to get them working with my xbox though, i have no luck what so ever! think its because it might not be looking at the cd but i cant be bothered to find out, just as easy to put film on dvd

stevebt - You using the latest XBMP ? v2.3 ?

That supports reading from an ISO CD-RW.
