Tricky Dual Boot question- Win9x & WinXP

Ok, the situation is this:
Hard Disk 1 contains Win9x
Hard Disk 2 contains WinXP
When the computer fires up it present me with the normal dual boot menu.
What I want to do, is reformat the Win9x hard disk and put a fresh copy of Win9x on again, without affecting the dual-boot.
Trouble is, when installing Win9x again, I imagine it will try and overwrite the dual-boot part and make it single boot, which I DON'T want! I need it kept as a dual boot machine.
Is this feasable ? I assume I need to backup whatever area holds the dual boot information, then restore when Win9x is installed, but I wouldn't know where to start!

you will need to copy your current master boot record and rewrite it. Although I can direct you how to do this in unix, I don't use windows ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I know windows will run fdisk /mbr when it reinstalls 98 and as you say this will overwrite your current MBR
I belive a program like boot magic can automate this for you, but don't hold me to that. Maybe somebody who is unfortunate enough to deal with windows more often can help.
good luck.
