I emailed Slim the webmaster over at TurboSport cut and pasted the email word for word
no problem,
to cut a long story short the way the bandwidth is charged is being changed so to run the uploader as it was would cost us £500/month so you can see why it is being stopped.
no, no objections at all.
Of course you do know that you can post pics on turbosport in the Scooby section and then link to the post from Scoobynet, just an idea.
Regards
Slim

Hi Phil,
Sorrry, no you cannot use it any more, this may or may not be a permanent thing, as of yet we are still unsure.

Why should scoobynet do ANYTHING about this?
95% of uk ISP accounts give you FREE WEBSPACE.
All you need to do is take responsibility and use it, not rely on someone to offer an easy uploader service at their expense.
Sorry if my reply seems a little touchy, but it really annoys me to see people complaining that a free service has been withdrawn when they have a perfectly good alternative but can't be bothered to use it.
FTP'ing is really very easy, and most ISPs will explain it on their homepage.

IanW,
Where does the money come from though..?? the moderators back pockets..???? 'advertising' must generate alot of money that pays towards this..????
If anyone had to pay for this i.e to keep it running i doubt it would be here..!

ISP = Internet Service Provide - The people you connect to the internet with, e.g. Freeserve, ntlworld, BTOpenworld, Pipex etc.
FTP = File Transfer Protocol. If your ISP gives you webspace you will need a way of getting your website / files onto it. For this you upload via FTP, which tends to be known as FTPing.
In the majority of cases it's very easy. All you'll need to find out from your ISP (or their help pages in most cases) is:
* Your webspace username (typically the username of your mail email account)
* Your password
* The upload server address
* Your website address
Once you have those 4 bits of information, just open another browser window and pop this into the address bar (removing the < > brackets and spaces, and replacing with your own information):
ftp:// < username > : < password > @ < upload server address >
This will log you into you FTP space, ie the space on the webserver to which you can upload your files. To upload, simply drag & drop or copy and & paste the files onto this window, like you would with any other drive in windows.
That uploads the files, simple as that.
The files will then show on your webspace, so just link to those files in the same way you would have linked to an image on turbosport.
So, to give an example, if you're an ntlworld customer, then you can upload at:
ftp://myusername:mypassword@upload.ntlworld.com
You can then see those files at:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/myusername
And you can then include an image hosted on your website in a post on scoobynet by putting this in your post (removing the spaces)
[ img ]http://homepage.ntlworld.com/myusername/mypicture.jpg [ /img ]
Hope that helps...
[Edit] Forgot to mention, by doing it this way, scoobynet do not get lumbered with the bandwidth cost. Each time the image loads it will be using your ISP's bandwidth, not scoobynet's. The text in here will be on scoobynet's bandwidth, but not remote-linked pictures. (hence pics here costing turbosport money at the moment...)

Maybe someone could write a generic image uploadeder for our own webspaces.
E.g put in your home page address, user id and password
then up pops an upload window
you select the file and after it's downloaded it then gives you the BBS code to paste in.
It'd be worth a go for sure.
BTW Moving to Computing. As it's not really an SN issue, and neither is it a bug or feature request for SN.

True, but it's a question that keeps being asked in the main forum sections...

I really like the 'angry smiley' in phil_stephens' post, but I can't get a copy of it
. IE6 tries to save it as a bmp, and it's not stored locally in cache. ![Confused](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/confused.gif)
Any ideas where I can get it from?
Thanks
Daniel
