Counter-strike help

Question
Have just installed this for the first time and when I try and connect to a server it says "you can not connect to a server which is operating under a different protocol version".

I don't get it All the servers I am trying are ones with the Windows icon and not the Linux icon.

Why wont it connect? And yes I have disabled my firewall while trying to connect

Could be down to the version of cs or halflife being different rather than the operating system. go to www.counter-strike.net and make sure you have both the lastest versions of counterstrike and halflife.

Cheers David, already found the answer on their forums. Allegedly I need to install version 1.0.0.5 which is currently downloading. 116mg though even with adsl is taking a while

Looks like I will have to wait till tomorrow to have a good blast

Cheers I am a total newbie at this, loved playing SWAT but not any experience with CS. Can you tolerate novices on that server?

Not sure you want to play on Rogue first time. I know Uk2 servers use to have a beginner servers.

Nice one but can't seem to find it on the Game website. Only has later versions for like £24.99 and I'm not buying that.

Are places still doing the £4.99 version?

I got a £4.99 copy from a game shop it was the best seller range I think

just hop you have BB or the file downloads are a beeach. MY BT broadband it connected in a week or so can't wait to get back to it , cause jolt 56K sucks
