Win XP Pro & IRIS
#1
Howdy,
Does anyone else here support the IRIS accountancy software?
We've got several sites that run this in the network mode, with Pervasive.SQL on the (Win2000) server, and then the Pervasive client on each workstation, with IRIS running from the mapped network drive - a textbook installation for it basically.
Anyway, we've got 1 site with major problems - 6 of their new XP Pro workstations are very very unstable when running any IRIS component - be it the Main Menu, Personal Tax, Business Tax, anything! They either crawl along, lock up the machine for a minute or two at a time, or crash the PC altogether??
The PC's are all decent spec, and there's no communication problems - all PC's logon on to the domain correctly, can browse the network, etc
I've now spoken to 3 different people at IRIS tech support, all of which have suggested the obvious things, but can't seem to find any answer - problem is, this is at one of our best client's sites
Anyone at all with any suggestions? Would be much appreciated!
Cheers,
Ian

Are the workstations running the same service pack level?
We had problems with certain packages that is fine under SP1 but no a base install. Some were the other way round.
If that doesnt fix it, try giving a user local admin access for testing and see if that works. If that sorts it, it could be to do with permissions on registry settings.
Thats all I can think of in this state of mind

Ta for the reply
All 6 workstations are at SP1, straight from the installation CD.
We've added the user's to the local admin groups too.
The annoying thing is at other sites we've got the same set-up and it works fine??
Even IRIS tech support are a bit baffled...

Borrow a computer from another site and try that at the problematic one?
Do the sites run different anti virus software?
Are there any background programs running?
Does the program open any files from the server? Or os it just a DB? We have had problems with XP SP1 machines accessing documents on W2k servers where they are not clearing down locks etc...
