Help!! Software installation problem.
#1
Hi al
I am running XP on my home computer and I am trying to upload a Mobile phone PC suite from the products CD. (Sony Ericsson P800)
When I try to load it, it begins to load via InstallShield and within 10 secs I get the following.
"Another program has been installed/uninstalled since the last reboot.
Reboot your computer to complete the previous installation/uninstallation before running this setup."
Now I have tried to do this a numerous amount of times but cant get it to run. Does anyone know how I can sort this out.
All help welcome!
Thanks in advance!

InstallSheild can sometimes get confused if setup files are left hanging about from a previous installation.
They usually hang about in your temp directory.
Best bet is to clear out your temp directory and try again.

Erm, I'm struggling now
My only other best guess would be that a previous InstallShield session failed/was halted sometime ago.
InstallShield can write directly to the Registry with information about an application and also with information on what to do after the next reboot.
E.g. it might try to install a file. The file may be in use by Windows so it cannot be replaced. The file is scheduled to be replaced at next reboot so the installer writes an entry to the Registry. Next time the machine reboots, the file should be replaced and the entry in the registry removed.
I would have a dig about in the registry for "RunOnce" entries and see if there is anything InstallShield related.
*** WARNING - Messing with the registry can seriosuly damamge the health of your PC and possibly the health of the person who advised you to mess with the registry. Please be careful.
I've had a dig about on the InstallShield knowledge base, but no help there.
Cheers

Start menu -> run -> enter "regedit" in the box & click ok / press enter.
If you don't know what you are doing, BE CAREFUL! There's no undo in regedit and some changes can have immediate effect. Take a backup before fiddling.
You can make a big mess fiddling about in there with all the config information the registry hold.

Thanks John!
OK in the registry under Runonce I have two lines...
1st line... name - (Default), type - REG_SZ, data - (value not set)
2nd line... name - DELDIRO.EXE, type - REG_SZ, data - "C:\DOCUME~1\NEILPL~1\LOCALS~\Temp\DELDIRO.EXE""C: \Program Files\McAfee Shared Components\Guardian\"
---------------------------------------------------
Know I don't use McAfee... so do I need line 2??? and what do I do about line 1????
Nothing I can see has Installshield on it.....
What do you both think??
