Does anyone know how many times these should be used before they are binned? We have a 4 drive jukebox with Legato and currently set the cleaning tape expiry to 25 uses because "thats the way its always been done round here". Just wondering if this is about right or not?

Any ideas on the optimum number of uses?

FYI - we set it to 20... but we are still having problems, although we believe this to be due to old back-up media now.

On a similar note, anyone know the average life of a DLT7000 drive head? As we think we might have issues there too.

Alex,

HP quote a minimum of 50,000 tape motion hours under continous operation and tape as 1 million passes.

HP also quote 20 cleans per cleaning cartridge.

Tandberg (who, IIRC, are the co holders of DLT technology with Quantum) quote 30,000 hours and the same for tape life.

Hmm, so roughly 3.5 years for 24x7 use (based on the 30000 figure).... worth looking into.
