Does anyone know anything about crossover networks. My 2 comps were connected by a crossover cable, but now my second comp cant go online but will connect to the other comp.

I have tried to run the XP wizard on the host comp but it says cannot complete the setup. Also can you delete the network connections and start from scratch.

Please help this is doing my head in..

Are the 2 network cards both showing a link light?

Does the second PC have a valid IP address?

Can you ping from PC2 -> PC1 and Vice Versa?

Are you assiging the IP address via DHCP or using Static IP's?

If you are using Static IP's are all your DNS settings correct?

Like i say the xp wizard wont run anymore on the host, it will run fron the 2nd comp. Also i can transfer files from both comps to 1 another.

It was working before but just stopped..

The cable itself would be fine in that case, as you are able to transfer the files.

On the second XP machine what is the IP configuration?

Open the Command Prompt and type ipconfig /all

Ian Thanks very much for your help its now sorted.(YEAH). My wife is now happy, but im even happier cause she's got no excuse to use my comp now.lol.
