I've been using AOL for about 18 months now. I also have NTL cable for TV. NTL are swamping me with adverts for Broadband. The 150k option is circa. the same price as AOL dial-up.
I'm tempted but a couple of things are putting me off:-

1. Their digital cable TV often freezes and I have to reboot (unplug) about once a fortnight due to half the channels suddenly going blank! - this dosen't do them any favours with my confidence with their internet reliability!
2. All my favorites in AOL + internet address will change.

I think my ultimate question is: Has anyone moved from AOL dial-up onto NTL without regret?

Thanks in anticipation

Nick

NTL are going to increase their prices, but that's only for people on the 128k service. At the same time as increasing the price, they are going to change the 128k service to 150k.

I went from AOL dial up to ntl broadband (600k) and I love it, I won't live without it Give it ago, after all you can alway's go back especially if you already have the box. Just plug it in and go.

Have you talked to ntl about the freezing problem, I ask because I had the same thing and it's all better now

I have NTL everything (phone, TV, 600k internet). All excellent, no problems at all - the TV box crashes every couple of months but usually because the other half has got enthusiastic with the remote buttone and made it crash. never have problems with the picture freezing/pixellating (how do you spell that word!?)

Can't you save your favourites from AOL (File, Export etc)

Thumbs up

I have the 128k (soon to be 150k if not already) service, and it is far better than dialup. Although it is faster than the modem, the biggest convenience is that it is always there.

Our telly occassionally has the "reboot required" glitches every so often, and like any service, the broadband connection does occassionally go down, but in the main it is perfectly reliable.

So, thumbs up from me

I have got the same deal as Gordo.

The odd problem here and there - TV occasionally goes down, internet occasionally goes down but apart from that - no worries

Did you not find problem with NTL over winter??

The cold seemed to accept our BB reception.

No problem with the cold affecting down South. Perhaps it gets colder where you are...

Thanks very much. All sounds positive so I will be looking deeper into this. Exporting AOL favourites sounds interesting.

Thanks again

I have just had 1 Meg installed and the installation process was awfull. The first day they didn't turn up or call it was only when after waiting 6 hours i called them (they book into a 5 hour slot!) to be told sorry they wouldn't be coming that day and i would have to wait another 2 weeks for a new appointment! This was after waiting over two weeks for the original.

Secod appointment was 1pm to 5pm so i called at 10am said you are coming today and they said Yes so again at 4 pm still no show so i called again and again told they would come by 5 pm so 5.15 pm i am on the phone again now very unhappy and after talking to various departments i persuade them to attend that day at 5.45 pm.

Installer turns up says no mate can't install it on an internal wall only install to outside wall near cable box. All of this i had sorted with Sales before placing order so had to have it fitted where it suited them and trail a white coax cable round the room to where i want the PC of course i could have argued the point and probably then had to wait another 2 weeks for another installer!

Still it has been in a few days and is fast and so far worked fine though i have yet to work out how to access my Freeserve news groups from NTL Broad band?

Forget to say they have discounted one months rental for the first missed appointment.
