Question

Right the scenario is...

NT(HELL)L broadband being installed in the lounge tomorrow (that is integrated into the set-top digi box), and the PC is in bedroom2 upstairs...

What are my best options for wiring this in? Maybe with the option of additional PC connection(s) down stairs too?

Bit out of the PC networking stuff, I thought about trying to put a 4-port hub off the back of the digi-box and then run a cable upstairs...

I want to be able to plug in a PS2 and *maybe* an X-Box at a later date, to get the online gaming..

Thoughts / suggestions?

Cheers, Alex

Hi,

I am in the proces of doing the same. My current plan is to get a wireless router in the lounge and pci card for the main pc upstairs. Wanted to avoid cables as the pc and mdodem are in opposite corners of the house. I have been looking at a few routers, and most come with a 4 port switch that you can use to link with normal lan connections.

DrEvil,

Unfortunatly, its not as simple as sticking a hub on the end of the stb. NTL verfies users by using pre registered MAC that you sign up for when it logs on for the first time. So a simple hub cannot put out a mac address, let alone forge one to make it look like a pc on the end of the cable. Its not all bad though, because you can get broadband routers that will "forge" the mac address and forward it to the lan.

An ideal router would be a linksys 8 port router with Wireless AP.

Costs ~£120 delivered
