Question

Will be installing a new writer in my system this week, and would lik to clean all the dust out whilst its open, as it was dust in the power supply that killed my last system.

Anyone any ideas? Where can I get those cans of compressed air?

Definately not the way to go mate

Personally, I just take the Dyson to it. Using the hose of course You can get compressed air cans from any stationers if you want to blow it all around the room

Take it down your local garage (with the cover off) and ask to borrow their air line. Does the job.

Or most camera shops also sell compressed air in cans.

Cheers

defintely don't stick it in the dishwasher

a good old vacuum too remove the majority of the thick dust and cr@p, then a blast of compressed air to get rid of the stubborn stuff.

You can buy some specialised cleaning spray for the electrical contacts if you wanted to go that far.

vacuum? you mean a static generator, not good for components methinks.
I use a CONVAC designed for hoovering out laser printers, expensive I think, I borrowed mine from tech support and they still haven't got it back yet.

If you're worried about static, then ground yerself. Oh, shouldn't you do that anyway before tinkering around inside a PC

I haven't blown up a PC in 8 years using a vacuum, although I've blown up a few vacuum cleaners in my time

I use a vacuum cleaner but attach a piece of 1/2" plastic tubing to it using a cork which fits inside the vacuum nozzle. Use a 1/2" paint brush for stubborn bits and a can of 'Air Duster' for the nooks and crannies. Make sure you are grounded to prevent ESD damage.

Maplins probably sell the cans, RS definitely do, you could also try a model shop as they have cans for small spray guns.
