Apparently the Live software will check whether the XBox has been chiped, if it has then the machine ID is sent to a Microsoft blacklist which means you are unable to join the on-line community.
Can anyone confim this? I was planning on getting a chip and Live but may re-think if this blocker is in place.

Yep, this is true. If you intend to keep the original Hard Drive (or lock the new one) then you can install a hardware switch to the chip when going online (Matrix can software switch). But if you forget to switch it off, then its bye, bye Live ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Personally, I think its a good thing. Stops people from cheating ala Counter Strike etc.

So in answer to your question, you can still play your *original* (that you have PAID for) games with X-Box Live and also use Linux or other homebrew apps on your X-Box, so long as you install as switch of some sort.
