Hi,
I have an ADSL connection and I use a Netgear DG814 router/modem. I want to set up a wireless home network so I can use my laptop anywhere in the house.
What's the cheapest way for me to do this and what would I need?
I've seen various wireless USB add-ons, but I don't know if they would be suitable for providing wireless ADSL browsing speeds, or what I would need at the router end to send/receive the data.
Thanks.

This is what I've got...
Netgear ME102 802.11b access point plugged into a port on the router with an ethernet cable
Netgear MA401 802.11b Wireless PC Card (PCMCIA) card in the laptop.
Works great. Similar stuff exisits from Linksys. Both these manufacturers are well respected.
You may want to investigate 802.11g devices - they have faster throughput but are more expensive....
..and if all you really want to to is wireless internet browsing then they're completely OTT 'cos the limiting factor in the whole chain is your 512Kb/sec ADSL link. If you wanted to do full on data transfers between two wireless devices in the house then 11g would be a better option.

Sadly there's no really cheap way to set up wireless networking - but it is worth it. I have a Linksys WAP11 access point plugged into my ADSL router, and a Dell TrueMobile mini-PCI card in my laptop - works like a charm ![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
As others have said, the limiting factor is the speed of your ADSL connection - (probably) 0.5Mbps vs 11Mbps for an 802.11b wireless network. There are faster wireless standards around, but they've not really sorted themselves out yet and I'd be inclined to avoid them, especially if you're on a budget.
