Hi peeps.

Her indoors has offered to buy me a digital camara for my birthday (up to 400 notes)

Having had a crappy one before im looking for these features:

1) 3.5 Megapixel or better
2) God battary life/rechargable (ie no quad triple A jobs.)
3) Tier 1 manufacturer
4) Good range of addons/expansions etc
5) Can take flash cards rather than use internal memory
6) Must be able to take a knock or two.

Any advice, recommendations etc most appreciated. Also where to get a good price on the camaras.

Many thanks

Stuey

PS I am a total amatuer/newbie but I would like to get something that can "grow" so to speak.

I've just got myself an Ixus 400 too. Weighs in at £450 but is damn impressive. I've come up from the original Digital Ixus (somebody stole it) and it's quite an upgrade.

Pairs up very well with my film SLR. Ixus is a great size, take everywhere sort of camera and I have the SLR with a big zoom for serious sessions.

In the same boat. Noticed today that Dixon's & Jessops are doing the Fuji S602 for £429. Seen one of these in action and it's fantastic. Does movies as well 640x480 @ 30 frames a second.

Hello

I just bought an Ixus 400 for £349 from Jessops. They price matched against a company on the internet. Just search.

It's a great camera.

I have the Ixus v3 (smaller and less zoom). It is excellent. Well built, intuitive controls, 3.2mp. The prints I just got back from Jessops (mostly at 1024 res) are nothing short of amazing. I have now put the APS camera up on Ebay as it has no use now I know I can get prints that sharp.

Would reccomend them to anyone - used most of the Ixus range.

Simon.

Just purchased Fuji Finepix 6800Zoom (predecessor to S601) as an A Grade refurb from Morgan Computer. £200+VAT.

v pleased with the feature/price for this compared to S601.

You can get a Canon G3 or an Ixus V400 for that kind of cash, both fantastic.

http://www.steves-digicams.com/default.htm for a review
http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/Productlist.asp

Its 360 for the Ixus400, G2 is 399, G3 is 480, all top prices and cameras
