I've been trying to find a simple cat5 cable tester...just a box that you plug into and it lights up if the cable is ok...


Any ideas where I can get one??

I have used (in the past) a basic circuit tester with 2 probes, a 9v battery & a buzzer. Make an RJ45 plug with the colours paired at one end & probe the pairs at the other with another jack with just colours coming off. Maplin £7.50 iirc

Very cheap but allows you to check that the wires are crimped/punched down correctly.
