Can I remove Win XP from a new computer?

Looking to buy a new entry spec base unit for our home office. Dell have some good units around the £400 mark but they all come with win XP. For simplicity I'd rather stick with the Win 2000 and Office pro 2000 set up we've already got - it does everything we ever need. Can I reformat the HDD and ditch XP and reinstall Win 2000?

If you've got licenses for the different OS, then why not? or do you think there might be technical problems with the older OS?
We've got some Dimension 4500's in our office as test boxes (they were shipped with XP pro) and I've had them running NT4, W2K and 2003 server.
The only real hassle would be finding older drivers for the video card and NIC. It did take some tracking down of W2K drivers for the onboard ATI chipset of the Dimensions though.

Yeah sure you can but make sure that you have all the associated drivers for the pc first, such as network, video card, modem, mobo etc.
Used to this a lot at previous place of employnment as it was all NT before two individuals decided to squeeze me out by spreading lies about me !!

Good luck getting Dell doing it for you. We're supposed to be a corporate customer, but we couldn't get them to remove XP Home from our laptops and replace with XP Pro. Yours truly got that little job ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Ozzy,
I have managed to get Dell to amend configurations for my company. We are also a preferred customer but I suppose it depends on whether you have a nice account manager or not. Our account manager is always willing to put his self out for us. Half price racks, free LCD screens, 25% of some quotes.
