HELP: My monitor keeps flicking

hi,
after logging on my computer for about 1/2 hour i notice the screen flicker as if it goes off and then on again but very quickly... the whole process takes about 1 second but then it keeps doing once every few minutes .... its a Compaq 15" monitor i've had it a few years now with no probs at all before....
any1 know what the problem could be????

It's trying to tell you to upgrade to a 17"

Edited to say... check the leads aren't coming loose. Make sure the graphics card is seated correctly in it's slot.

Dry joint (solder) pos. in the power supply?
does it help if you give it a wee dunt on the side? -re connect the joint-

Maybe the monitor is doing an "auto de-gaussing"?
Do you have the instructions, or maybe have a stroll around the menu settings to see if it crops up anywhere.
De-gaussing (in simple terms) demagnetises the monitor, which will cause the screen to flicker/wobble (and possibly make a twang/humm noise as if it has just been turned on).
