well folks. i am sure you are sick hearing from me. didnt get a chance to post this morning as i was on my way out to work
Anyway managed to get the machine to boot @ 11x205
but as all you OG overclockers out there know booting up and running for any length of time is another matter.
Ran Prime95 and Asus Probe to monitor temps. even with 5 x 80 mm fans in the case the temp in the cpu started to rise to 52 degrees. i have the Vcore at 1.75v btw. anyway Prime 95 initial startup says it take an hour to check if may machine is up to the task. when the cpu got to 52 degs the machine rebooted itself. wtf. pulled the fsb back to 200mhz and ran prime 95 again same thing when the cpu got to 52deg. now asusprobe threshold is 70 odd degs before the cpu shuts down. could it be the memory over heating. should i up the voltage to the memory, or adjust timings. as you know its corsair pc3700 so the fsb should be no probs to this memory. they also come with big **** off heat spreaders on them.
getting well pissed off now. spent a fair few pound getting mobo, new cpu, wrong memory (DOH!!) and new corsair stuff.
sorry to be a right PITA but your advice is appreciated.
cheers

Yeah, who said loads? Also, which CM heatsink is it exactly?
Arctic Ceramique is actually my compound of choice atm, but much of a muchness compared to the other 2 mentioned.
something like IPA should be used to clean both the base of the heatsink and the cpu core, I always breathe on them and clean afterwards too as nearly pure water condensation
.
I tend to use IPA to clean off the edge of a Stanley blade, put a teeny dollop of compound on, say 2-2.5mm dot really and use the blade to flatten out across the core. Hard to explain amount of compound used, as differs from core to core.
Cheers,
Nick
