Critical advice required re: pc build

HI peeps,
We have just got 12 of the new JVC ultraportable X7 series. Now I have to build/customise them (they rock btw).
Now the idea I have ( the bit I want advice on) is this.
I was going to create 3 partitions on the laptops, a system drive c(10GB), data drive d (2 GB), storage e: (4 GB)
Now my reasoning for this is that if I lock down the C drive VERY VERY tightly, and make them save their work on the d:, if I put a ghost image on the e drive if they ***** up the c: somehow, I can talk em through reghosting the partition with a stored image from the e:.
Also if I need to update the laptops, it can be done with another ghost image over the main partition and the users can carry on as normal (because it so heavily locked down, no settings would be lost)
Also the SD card can be used to backup the data drive. Is 2 GB big enough for most users data. I think it is more than enough.
Only other prob is that they all have different printers at home. How can I allow them to add the printers, but nothing else, is it possible (perhaps run as admin, but that kinda defeats the object
What do you peeps think to my idea ?
Good idea/bad idea?

Depends what OS you run. If you run win2k or XP you can set a security policy that can allow or prevent users from installing printer drivers. In the run box type gpedit.msc and navigate to Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options and you will see Devices: Stop uses from installing printer drivers. Turn it on or off as you desire.
Secondly: 2Gb I would have thought is not a great deal in this day and age of multimedia. 100 mp3's a few digital photos and its full. XP and OfficeXP only take up about 1 gb or so. My suggestion would be to reduce the c drive to say 5 to 7 gb and give the rest to data. Does the ghost partition need to be on a FAT or FAT32 partition for ghost to read it??
PS- When you are about to talk a USER through Ghosting his laptop give me a call... I can always do with a good laugh.....
