Stupid "worm" pop-up!! Grrrrr
#1
Ever since that Welchia Worm infected my PC while I was away, and I killed it with a Norton thingy, I've had a pop-up coming up really frequently.
It's a sort of buff colour, and tells me it just got through my security, then offers to stop itself and other similar things doing so again, if I ring a number at £1.50 a minute, with no software to buy.
I assume it's a con?
How can I stop the damn thing?
Cheers for any responses.

I presume you are running XP
1. Click Start > Run
2. Type "Services.msc"
3. Click OK
4. Scroll down to find Messenger service
5. Right click, select Properties
6. Click Stop
7. Change startup type to Disabled
8. Click Apply/OK
The messenger service has nothing to do with Windows Messenger / MSN Messenger. The fact that you are getting this pop-up means that your PC is exposed to the outside world - either enable the built in firewall, or get a firewall ZoneAlarm is one of the popular choices.
