To disable messenger service
1.Right click on my computer
2.left click on manage
3.Expand sevices and aplications
4.lift click on services
5.Scroll down to messenger
6.left click on messeger
7.select disabled on start up type

If you can't be arsed to read the instructions, use Steve Gibson's Shoot the Messenger program. Only 22K to download. Lots of other useful stuff on his site too.

No problem - smart guy Mr Gibson. He also writes some very scary stuff about WiNXP. It really shows Microsoft as being very lazy in their programming and development.

Some of Steve Gibsons stuff is, erm, OTT to say the least though.
I'd rather have people understand how somebody on the 'Net can connect to the Messenger Service and fix that issue rather than just turn it off... They turn it off, problem over. Then along comes Blaster and it's problem time again. A firewall would remove both problems.
