I've downloaded a film off Kazaa and it won't play

You're probably missing the correct codec for the movie to play. Download GSpot - this identifies what codecs are required to play the movie correctly. Download the correct codec and bob's your uncle!!

probably missing a codec or similar for WMP
have a look on freecodecs.com and follow the link to K-lite Codec Pack - this might get you started after you've downloaded / installed which bits you need...
secondly, does it have to run in WMP, can it be opened in quicktime etc (by opening from quicktime and then opening the movie rather than double-clicking the file as the association will probably load WMP)? sometimes I've found that other software will run things that WMP won't play ball with...
