basically the easiest / best way of connecting a desktop machine to a laptop for file sharing?

crossover cable (providing they both have a network card)

Just a thought..... what's wrong with using a firewire cable ????

It's 3x the speed of a patch or crossover cable.

Mainly as I bought one to connect the vid cam up but I can connect that between both pc's as well....

Might try that whilst I await replies
