Question

Anyone know how I can convert DiVX files to a format that will play on a dvd player

Can burn to a cdr or dvd-r

Convert the divx to an mpeg with mencoder[get it at http://marillat.free.fr/] and then use vcdtools or vcdimager to create a bin image which you can burn to a cd using cdrdao

personally i wouldnt bother i converted a couple and the quality dropped drastically, you can buy dvd player that play everything for £100 as ive just got one and they play all my divx stuff

as steve said although i'd be more inclined to buy and chip and xbox total cost 150 quid if you do it yourself and 20-30 quid if someone does it for you, cheaper alternative is easyx video convertor

If you've got SVCD its pretty easy to convert. If you've got avi you need to re-encode. If you have the patience then you can convert with minimal loss, just takes a fair while, even on a 3.0GHz + PC.

the xbox plays them better than the dvd player i bought but the xbox works out dearer

i converted Finding nemo the divx one was excelent quality the converted mpeg2 was not even worth watching
