saw a 350 gig external hdd in scan the other day for £250, reasonable? and what would the performance on a beast like this be like?

External, hows it connect?

I got a 120gig connected via Firewire, I use it mainly for backing up. It's very slow, lot slower than you'd expect and the computer runs like ****e when you copying to it (a 2.4ghz with 512mb ram)

But for backing up they is fantastic
