What type of installation cd is it? Pro, Home or upgrade
You cannot use a Home CD code if installing from a Pro or upgrade CD, you cannot use an upgrade code if installing from a Pro or home CD, etc. etc.
You have to have the correct CD or the correct code.
Edited as I just noticed that you have an XP Pro cd code. Doh![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

![Question](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
have a valid licence for xp pro,
cannot find my cd, so borrowed one and was going to use my serial number to set it up.
It would not let me enter serial saying it was wrong,
does xp have the serial embedded on the disk or something like that
thanks in advance

ps
how do i get around it ?

I had the same problem last night. I have my own XP pro code but was trying to run the installation from an upgrade CD. It refused to work, finally worked it out and found my pro cd.
I'd say Kazza or Win MX for it, I know they are there.

You'll need an OEM disk from the same manufacturer, as most are BIOS locked.
Most OEM's include the CAB files on the hard drive (unless you've reformatted of course)
