A 12x DVD burner eh?
Put me down for one !!
You'll find that the 8x Plextor is the fastest burner available at the moment (and supporting media is like hens teeth)
The Teak 106 is a 4x +/-r burner but can be flashed to read at 12x
IMO this is putting unnecessary strain on the drive.
Anyway, the link is to neogames/tech. They get the thumbs up for customer service as i've returned 2 Teak drives to them and have received replacement drives within 48hrs.
The only drawback is their carriage charges are quite high.
I think SVP (www.blankdiskshop.co.uk) have 106's for £99 and if you buy some media, you'll probably get free shipping.
For future reference, www.diskdepot.co.uk is shortly to go live and should be 'your one-stop media shop'![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I had a Sony and encountered nothing but trouble, changed it for the Pioneer 106 which I can only say has been faultless, SVP were the supplying dealer and I would highly recommend them.

I've gone for the sorta "rolls royce" equivalent - the Plextor PX 708A. So far, it has been utterly flawless. It's admittedly expensive, but after having problems with CD writers until I bought a plextor, I decided it was worth it.
It seems to record to any brand of DVD-R at 4x with no qualms. If it does have problems, POWEREC (tm
) means that it backs the write speed down to ensure integrity.
I have yet to try the DVD+R 8x writing, as I bought 25 -Rs to write to
. The s/w is nero, which is great.
I really can't fault it, it oozes quality and does a great job. It's silent in operation too, which is nice
, even writing CDs at 40x, or DVDs at 4X.
Cheers,
Nick.

I've not bought a DVD writer yet, but a mate at work has a Pioneer 106, seems to be a very good writer.
I'm holding off as I think there's a possibility of the prices dropping after Christmas - especially on the Pioneer 106, as the A07 (retail version of the 10x drives) is out next year...

I personally like the look of the Plextor PX-708A - might get that in the New Year.

The 107 is out in 2 weeks.
It's an 8x +r burner, 4x -r
Don't hold off anymore buying a 106, they're as cheap as they're gonna get at £87 inc VAT from eBuyer

Cheap as they are going to get? You've got to be kidding me.
I remember paying >£200 for a twin speed CD burner as they "couldn't get any cheaper." My latest x52 speed burner cost about £30!
If you don't need it now, don't buy! It WILL be cheaper in a month or two. Prices may fluctuate up and down slightly, but DOWN is the only way they'll go long term......
[edited] oh yeah - go for the A106 - they're Grrreat! LOL![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

IMO The 106 won't get any cheaper.
Tenner says it never goes sub-£80 inc VAT???![Big Grin](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
It will go the way of the 103, 104, 105 and be discontinued as faster burners become available.
Once proper 8x media comes on the market, they won't want people buying 4x writers!
