I have a mpeg(for_example.mpeg) movie that is burned onto a CD. Problem is my DVD plater won't recognise it. The DVD player (pioneer DV464) plays
SVCD, VCD which I though was what mpeg1 was (mpeg2 being dvd)???

Is there any 'free' way to convert my mpeg file so that I can burn to CD and play on my DVD player? Does the file have to have a particular extension?

thanks in advance.

It needs to be burnt in proper SVCD/VCD format to play in your DVD player

Which burning software are you using?

If you use Nero, select Video CD, drag and drop the file and it will write the VCD header on the disc that your player will need to see, as well as the video.

Hey presto, it should work!

Nero will also convert your MPG file if it's not in the correct format! (Resolution, etc)

It was a CD that a mate gave me that plays on his DVD player OK but on mine not. Burning s/w is not Nero but will check tonight to see what it is.

All the actual disk has on it is 'film_name.mpeg', nothing else.

I'll check out the sites.

thanks

It sounds like your mate has a very funky player to do that!

Copy the file to you PC.

Use your existing CD buring software, and select it to burn a VCD.

Select the file you've now got on your PC.

Burn it and it should add in the VCD headers.
