Hoping someone can help quickly . Trying to set up a wireless LAN or if anyone could reccomend anything else.

Using a BT Voyager 2000 Wireless ADSL modem to connect to adsl.

I then have a -

desktop machine connected (wireless)(XP)and
Laptop connected (wireless) (XP)

Both machines can access internet etc.. do normal stuff.

But what i want is for each machine to see each other a la LAN / Network. Trouble is neither machine can see each other so i cant share files or printer etc..

Can anyone assist or possibly offer some tips / direction .

Thanks .

The internet access will be using TCP/IP.

For file & print sharing under windows you'll need the Microsoft Netbeui protocol installed.

XP has a wizard that will do all of this for you.

I have pinged the other machine but the request is timing out. Trying both machines but they both keep on timing out .

Ran the network setup wizard but that isnt helping at all , totally useless ... its not helping me.

Only firewall i have running is the windows one ,but i have tried it on and off , no difference , still cant see machines.

I know about the TCP/IP and changing it to SPX.

Whats the IP config of the machines??

Is the subnet mask the same on all machines and are they all on the same subnet?

Set PC1 to 192.168.1.100 with a mask of 255.255.255.0
Set PC2 to 192.168.1.101 with a mask of 255.255.255.0

Set them like that or similar (double check what your router IP is)

do an "ipconfig /all > c:\ip.txt"

on each computer and then paste the contents of each "c:\ip.txt" file here, it will give us more to go on!
